A teachers' strike in Cameroon has prevented millions of pupils from attending school since Monday, February 21, 2022. As long as their demands are not fulfilled, thousands of secondary school teachers who are part of the "On a trop soutenu" (OTS) movement will not return to class on Monday. Operation 'Dead Chalk' will begin on February 21, 2022, as the OTS movement has chosen. If their demands are not fulfilled, the operation may continue for several weeks.

According to the teachers, their living and working situations are wearing them out. The majority of them call for the implementation of the decree on the special status of teachers, promotions, and the integration of recent training school graduates.

The government made an attempt to persuade teachers to call off their strike last weekend. In order to negotiate with the leaders of the OTS movement, the ministers of youth, vocational training, secondary education, labor, and social security gathered around the prime minister's secretary-general.

These requests are known to the government, which is giving them special consideration. Séraphin Magloire, Secretary General of the Prime Minister (SGPM), stated, "Within the framework of the ad hoc interministerial commission responsible for managing ENS and ENSET graduates, remarkable progress has been made." The government claims that there is money in the state coffers. They are merely employed by several sectors, particularly to address the battle in the Northwest (NoSo) and the epidemic.

"All the issues raised by the OTS collective will be analyzed," the Parliament's General Secretariat stated, justifying the decision to revoke the strike call. The teachers continue to call for a strike because they believe the government is unwilling to find a constructive solution to their demands.
